17 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
A range of Craigellachie single malts was released for the
first time in 2014. The distillery is known for its meaty
character, and the 17-year-old is sweet and slightly smoky,
with tropical fruit notes. It used to be a rather rare sight to
see an official bottling of Craigellachie single malt. Well
after years of waiting, in 2014, four turned up all at once!…

About the brand
The Craigellachie distillery was built in 1891 by Craigellachie Distillery Co. Limited, a group of blenders and
merchants led by Alexander Edward. Two years later, it was incorporated as a limited company and in 1896
it was reconstructed as Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Ltd. During the years that followed, ownership
passed to Peter Mackie (in 1916), the Distillery Company Limited (in 1927) and SMD (in 1930). The transfer to
SMD marked the beginning of a period of stability for Craigellachie; apart from a reconstruction in 1964-65
during which the number of pot stills was doubled, relatively little happened at the distillery. In 1998, it was
sold to John Dewar & Sons. During its history, the distillery has released only a handful of official bottlings.
The distillery's product is currently primarily used for Dewar's blended whisky. In 2014, a 13-year-old,
17-year-old, a travel retail exclusive 19-year-old, and a limited 23-year-old were released as part of the
Dewar & Sons' Last Great Malts of Scotland.

I had a pour of this last evening during a tasting facilitated by Craigellechie. This was a piece of the lottery for the 51 yr old tasting which 150 individuals around the globe got an opportunity to attempt. Luckily @Scott_E was one of them and Im appreciative I was his visitor for the occasion. So...at the time I truly preferred this one. It was a progressively refined smoother variant of the 13. Kind of Puncture Brosnans Bond rather than Daniel Craigs unpleasant and tough one. All things considered however I incline toward the 13 for that harsh edge. To me its consistently ordinary to discover smooth adjusted single malts however such a great amount of harder to discover harsh and truly even ones. That being said...this was damn acceptable. The substantial notes were less articulated versus the 13 the sulfurous edges streamlined a piece. Im happy I tasted this yet Ill be a purchaser of the 13 only for that roughness.

Distiller gave this articulation one more point than the 23. So did a couple of individuals in the remark area on MofM. All things considered i'm apprehensive I need to vary here. Alright this 17yo is acceptable unique not the same as different malts around and for this situation an extraordinary jug to go after when searching for a simple sipper yet not the slightest bit might i be able to contrast it with the ground-breaking 23 where everything is fruitier juicier increasingly intricate well better...much better imho. still I give this one a strong 4

Tasting Notes
Nose
Apple crumble, melon and raisins. Honey'd barley, a little hint of smoke and vanilla ice-cream.
Taste
It opens very sweet with pineapple and custard creams, though the meatiness soon shines through. More smoke on the palate than the nose, with a touch of clove and oak.
Finish
Waxy and smoky on the finish.
