ASW Distillery Duality Double Malt Whiskey 750ml Bottle

Tonight’s dram takes me (virtually) to the deep south, to the ASW (American Spirit Whiskey) distillery in Atlanta, Georgia for their Duality Double Malt. It opens with smoked pork (yes, meat) with brown sugar glaze and loads of black pepper, joined by vanilla, toasted oak, and dark cherries, then cinnamon, caramel, and rye spice. The smoke flavor is very campfirey, meaty, and oaky – completely different from a peated dram – yuck! The oily mouthfeel and thick clingy legs provide a nice long finish reminiscent of sitting around the smoker, smoking pork shoulder/butts and ribs in the late evenings/nights – you can actually taste the smoke coming off the pork. These US-based distillers are quickly approaching the quality and diversity of the Scottish drams. Eating smoked pork and drinking a fine malt… it just doesn’t get any better than this… Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
