Glenfarclas is a name that rolls of the tongue for a sound that brings to mind the shadows of a long lost castle nestled in the haunting fog of a strange countryside with tendrils of ivy interwoven between ancient stone and massive oak beams decorated with a royal family crest. Almost as if to take you to such an ethereal plain, Glenfarclas offers up their 40 year old single malt scotch for taste of the Speyside you’ll drown yourself in. The nose begins with the strong bite of used furniture polish over deep antique leather and rich wood. Soon to follow are boughs of melted chocolate, espresso coffee and bites of preserved raisins, dark fruits, prunes, and layers of newly cooked marmalade. The tongue is treated to hues of wood spiced with pepper, baked cinnamon, and hits of chocolate covered hazelnuts over tendrils of stewed fruits and a surprising bite of balsamic vinegar and wet oak. Try not to concur that the more youthful ones are better. A dash of water and this is warm mind boggling and smooth. Unquestionably worth the cash. To my taste obviously better then the HP18 or Macallan 21 which get a higher score on this site
